Logic gates
Syllabus 10.1Syllabus 10.2
What this lesson covers
- Identify the standard logic gate symbols
- Describe NOT, AND, OR, NAND, NOR and XOR
Key vocabulary
- Boolean logic
- Logic where every value is either TRUE (1) or FALSE (0).
- Logic gate
- An electronic component that produces one binary output from one or more binary inputs.
- NOT
- Outputs the opposite of its single input.
- AND
- Outputs 1 only when both inputs are 1.
- OR
- Outputs 1 when either input, or both, is 1.
- NAND
- NOT AND: outputs 0 only when both inputs are 1.
- NOR
- NOT OR: outputs 1 only when both inputs are 0.
- XOR
- Exclusive OR: outputs 1 when the inputs are different.
